The film stand by me portrays an extraordinary friendship between the main characters and this very similarly reflects the same type of relationship shown in the movie “the goonies”. In both films, a group of boys set off on an adventure to find a treasure, in the goonies it being a pirates treasure and in stand by me being a rise to fame with the dead body. Their journey is filled with challenges that test their loyalty and courage, ultimately bringing them closer together. Each boy has personal motivations for joining the adventure, which adds depth to their relationships as they support one another through various trials. Similarly, in “The Goonies,” a group of kids embarks on a treasure hunt to save their homes from foreclosure. Their shared goal unites them, and as they face obstacles, they rely on each other’s strengths and unique skills. The camaraderie they develop during their adventure reflects the importance of teamwork and friendship in overcoming adversity

Text to self

In the film, the friendship among the boys is characterized by a playful and immature spirit, particularly evident in the treehouse scene where they sing and tease Vern. This light-hearted banter mirrors the dynamics I share with my own friends, as we also enjoy goofing around and engaging in friendly teasing. Despite our playful antics, we maintain a strong and meaningful connection, much like the boys in the film. Their camaraderie, filled with laughter and light-hearted jokes, reflects the essence of youthful friendship, showcasing how such interactions can strengthen bonds while creating cherished memories. This scene perfectly captures the joy of friendship, showing that even when we joke and have fun, the bond we share is still special and meaningful.

Text to world

The film shows us a common experience among young boys. We can see just how much Gordie’s friend group altered his identity, this parallel is accurate to the real world as in everyone’s life they would’ve had a friend or friend group that influenced that person in some way and ultimately would’ve shaped the person they are to become. To add to that point, the film shows how these friendships help Gordie grow and discover who he is. The adventures and challenges he faces with his friends not only shape his childhood but also influence the person he will become, reminding us that the friends we have when we’re young can have a lasting impact on our lives.

The viewers are able to see this act when in the scene where the boys come across the body, Ace confronts them with a knife, using mise en scene. The boys are able to diffuse the situation when Gordie courageously pulls a gun and scares the gang away, this brave act from Gordie allowed the boys to avoid the intense situation. Rob Reiner uses quick cuts back and forth between the characters paired with quite noise to illuminate the scariness of aces voice allows this scene to intensify to another level. This pivotal moment not only showcases Gordie’s newfound courage and willingness to protect his friends, but also marks a significant turning point in his character development. By standing up to Ace and his gang, Gordie demonstrates that he has grown beyond his initial insecurities and is capable of taking decisive action when faced with adversity, reflecting the transformative power of friendship and shared experiences during this coming-of-age journey.
